From Idea to Heirloom: How Our Custom Ring Process Works
Every LM Jewellers ring begins the same way: with a conversation. Some clients arrive with a screenshot saved for years. Others arrive with nothing but a feeling and a budget. Both are perfect starting points. Here is exactly what happens between that first conversation and the day your ring arrives.
1. The consultation
We work strictly by appointment, so your session is private and unhurried. You can visit our studio in Oakdene, Johannesburg, or start online. Our co-founder Nazreen and the team will ask about your style, your lifestyle, your budget and the story behind the ring — because the right piece starts with understanding the person who will wear it.
We’ll walk you through the decisions that matter:
- The stone — moissanite or certified lab-grown diamond, and which shape speaks to you.
- The setting — solitaire, halo, hidden halo, three-stone, bezel or something entirely your own.
- The band — plain, pavé, split shank or contoured to sit with a future wedding band.
- The metal — solid 9K, 14K or 18K gold, or platinum.
2. Your design, visualised in minutes
Once we understand what you want, we create a CAD (computer-aided design) and mockup of your ring — often in minutes. You will see the proportions, the profile from the side, how high the stone sits and how the band meets the setting, before anything is made.
You should never have to imagine your ring. You should be able to see it.
3. Refine until it’s right
Want the stone a touch larger? The band a little finer? Claws more delicate? This is the moment to change it. We adjust the design with you until it feels unmistakably yours. Nothing goes into production until you approve it.
4. Crafted by hand
Your approved design goes to our skilled craftsmen. Your stone is set, the metal is finished and polished, and every detail is checked against your design. Working directly with our craftsmen — without traditional retail mark-ups — is how we keep luxury-level quality at genuinely competitive prices.
5. Delivered to your door
When your ring is ready, it’s carefully packaged and delivered free, anywhere in South Africa. Your timeline is confirmed with you during your consultation, so you can plan the proposal with confidence.
What to bring to your consultation
- Screenshots or Pinterest boards of rings you love (and any you don’t).
- A rough budget — we’ll show you how to get the most from it.
- A ring size, if you have one. If not, read how to find her ring size secretly.
- Any special details: an engraving, a birthstone, a family stone to incorporate.
No mass production. No one-size-fits-all approach. Just beautifully crafted jewellery, honest advice and attentive service from your first conversation to the day your ring is delivered.
